Karnal Kings Stun Eventual Champions Rohtak Royals 43-41 on Opening Day

In one of the most significant results of Kabaddi Champions League Season 1's opening day, Karnal Kings edged past Rohtak Royals 43-41 at the Sports University of Haryana, Rai. At the time, it looked like a routine league-stage result. By the end of the season, it stood out as the only defeat Rohtak Royals would suffer at the hands of a team they wouldn't face again until they lifted the trophy months later.

The match itself was a tight, competitive affair from the outset, with neither side able to build a decisive cushion. Karnal Kings, guided by head coach Ravinder Pahal and built around the defensive leadership of marquee signing Sunil Malik, held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a narrow two-point win, immediately validating the discipline-first approach the coach had spoken about at the auction table.

For Rohtak Royals, the defeat was an early setback in what would become a rollercoaster league campaign under coach Surender Nada, but it did little to derail the team's long-term trajectory. Vijay Malik's raiding and Sandeep Narwal's defensive experience would go on to carry Rohtak Royals through the rest of the season and deep into the knockouts.

The result took on far greater significance in hindsight. Karnal Kings would go on to finish the league stage with four wins, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals on points difference, while Rohtak Royals recovered to go all the way to the Kabaddi Champions League title. It left Karnal Kings with the unique distinction of being the only team all season to beat the eventual champions, a fact that added a layer of frustration to their own near-miss playoff campaign.
