Ayan Lochab's 23-Point Masterclass Sinks Rohtak Royals 47-43
Sonipat Stars produced one of the individual highlights of the entire league stage, defeating Rohtak Royals 47-43 on February 4 at the Sports University of Haryana, Rai. The win was built around a stunning 23-point performance from marquee raider Ayan Lochab, capping a run that saw Sonipat Stars beat two of the season's eventual finalists.
Rohtak Royals, already reeling from their heavy defeat to Panipat Panthers just a day earlier, found no answer for Ayan Lochab's raiding, with Vijay Malik's usual composure unable to prevent coach Ramesh Kumar's side from closing out a narrow four-point win. It extended a difficult closing stretch of the league stage for Rohtak Royals, who would need to regroup fast heading into the knockouts.
For Sonipat Stars, the win completed a remarkable double over both Bhiwani Bulls and Rohtak Royals, the two teams that would go on to contest the Kabaddi Champions League final. It remains one of the great ironies of Season 1 that Sonipat Stars, having beaten both eventual finalists, still missed out on a semi-final berth themselves on points difference.
This performance confirmed Ayan Lochab as one of the standout raiders of the entire tournament, finishing the season with 87 raid points and a place among the league's top five raiders.
