Kabaddi Champions League (KCL) Produces Seven of India’s 14-Player Men’s Squad for the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026

The Kabaddi Champions League (KCL) has another proud milestone to celebrate, with seven of the 14 players named in India’s men’s squad for the inaugural Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship 2026 coming from the KCL ecosystem. The tournament begins on October 23 at the Veer Savarkar Stadium in Ahmedabad, and the selections show how quickly the league has become a source of national-level talent.

Four Defenders from the KCL Ranks

Defence is where KCL’s influence is most visible. Nitesh Kumar of Hisar Heroes made 65 tackle attempts in Season 1, converting 35 of them for 38 tackle points, the second-highest total in the league behind Top Defender Hitesh. His season included three Super Tackles and four High Five performances. Yogesh Dahiya of Faridabad Fighters recorded 25 tackle points at a 60.6 percent success rate, with five Super Tackles and three High Fives, and the Fighters bought him again at the Season 2 auction for ₹9.2 lakh. Parvesh Malik of Bhiwani Bulls added 28 tackle points, including six Super Tackles, while Surjeet Narwal of Hisar Heroes contributed 17 tackle points and two Super Tackles alongside a share of the team’s raiding load.

Two All-Rounders with KCL Credentials

Bharat Hooda, named among India’s all-rounders, was the second-most expensive player at the Season 2 auction, joining Karnal Kings for ₹16.6 lakh. Neeraj Narwal also makes the squad as an all-rounder. He scored 28 raid points in just three matches for Gurugram Gurus in Season 1 and was signed by Rohtak Royals at the Season 2 auction for ₹8.6 lakh.

Naveen Kumar Goyat: A Raider from KCL’s Newest Franchise

The seventh KCL name in the squad is raider Naveen Kumar Goyat, who was the third-most expensive player at the Season 2 auction, joining Kurukshetra Knights for ₹15.2 lakh. Kurukshetra Knights are one of the two new franchises in KCL, which means they already have a player in India’s national squad before playing their first match. Goyat will play under head coach Anup Kumar as the Knights build their identity ahead of the new season.

Why It Matters for KCL

The Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship is the first international event of its kind, and having half of India’s squad drawn from KCL shows the league’s reach and quality. The seven players come from seven different franchises across Season 1 and the Season 2 auction. It follows India’s Asian Games 2026 success, where KCL players and the league’s own chairman, Balwan Singh Ji, played a central role in the gold medal win. Two major national selections in a matter of weeks give the league a strong claim to being a serious talent pipeline in Indian kabaddi.

What It Means for Franchises and Fans

For every franchise involved, national call-ups are a source of pride and raise the profile of the teams ahead of Season 2. Fans can follow the players’ progress at the championship and expect them to return with valuable international experience.
